The soldier Marsch´s earth hut.

Nils Gummesson Marsch (also called Mars) was born in Väckelsång in 1807 and served as a soldier for Kinnevalds company during the years 1827 and 1839. His wife was named Eva Andersdotter and was born in 1791.

He had probably been dismissed because of illness, because he is mentioned in the Household Examination Rolls as sick and poor. In 1844 he moved to Törnabygd and in 1850 to Tåget.

During the year 1850 Nils Gummesson recieved contribution from the public assistance comitee with 3 riksdaler och 12 skilling Banco to build a cottage. For this money he built this earth hut where he then lived until 1891 or -92 when he was moved to the poor house in Jätsbygd where he died in 1896.

Åkrokens Society for Inhabitants decided in their year meeting in 1984 to look in to if it was possible to rebuild the hut to show coming generations how poor people could live in the late 1800´s.

Yeoman Arhur Wirdebo, who owned the land, gave the Society for Inhabitants right to dispose a land area around the hut. The hut has been restored thanks to gifts and over 600 hours of volontary work.

Marsch´s hut was inagurated 27:th of August 1988.
